About Me

Personal portrait of Krista, Certified Doula
Krista Duggan Birth Doula

I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and I am the second oldest of nine children. My introduction to birth was personal — at a young age, I helped my mother during labor at home, witnessing the strength, courage, and beauty of bringing life into the world. That experience planted a seed that would shape my future.

My husband and I have been married for 31 years, and together we have raised five children. Along the way, we also opened our home as foster parents to many others, walking alongside families during seasons of challenge and transition. Today, we are blessed with six grandchildren, and I had the joy of serving as a doula for four of their births. Those experiences deepened my compassion and strengthened my ability to remain calm, steady, and supportive in emotional moments.

Throughout my life, I have served as a teacher (K–8th), volleyball coach, and business owner — mentoring and leading young people both on the court and in the workplace. Coaching has always been about more than performance; it’s about building confidence, resilience, and trust. After much consideration, for my doula training I sought DONA International to pursue more formal education and deepen my ability to support families during one of life’s most transformative seasons.

Today, I am privileged to serve as a volunteer Doula with the HELP Crisis Pregnancy Center in Monroe and Waxhaw NC and the Walking with Moms organization at my church. Supporting women during vulnerable and life-changing moments is not just my profession — it is my calling. As a doula, I bring steady leadership, physical comfort, emotional reassurance, and clear information into every birth space. I believe women are strong, capable, and deserving of compassionate support that honors their unique journey. One of life’s most transformative moments deserves thoughtful, steady support. I would be grateful to walk that journey with you.

Testimonials

Empowering families with care and compassion

Krista was absolutely amazing before, during, and after my birth. She was always just a phone call away throughout my pregnancy, ready to answer any question with encouragement, calm reassurance, and so much kindness. It was clear from the very beginning how deeply she cared.

My birth experience with Krista as my doula was truly incredible. She supported me with essential oils, calming words of affirmation, and helpful techniques to manage and release pain during labor. Her presence brought such a sense of peace and confidence when I needed it most.

After my baby was born, Krista continued to show up for me in the most thoughtful ways. She always put my needs first and supported me through my recovery so I could focus fully on bonding with my baby. I am beyond grateful for her care and support—she is truly AMAZING.

First Time Mom

Krista was an incredible gift to have her serve as my doula during the birth of my second baby. Walking into a scheduled C-section can bring a mix of emotions, but her calm, steady presence immediately brought reassurance and confidence.

She created a sense of peace in the operating room that allowed me to stay grounded and present. She stayed with me the entire time and never left my side.

She anticipated my needs, offered gentle encouragement, and ensured I felt informed and supported throughout the entire process. Her ability to balance professionalism with genuine care made all the difference in what could have otherwise felt overwhelming.

Because of her support, my birth experience felt empowering, intentional, and deeply meaningful. I am profoundly grateful for the role she played in welcoming our baby into the world.

Mom of Three

Krista was incredibly supportive before, during, and after labor. She helped me to be thoughtful about my birth plan and how to best prepare myself for what was to come. Specifically, she provided me with positions that I practiced to prepare my body for labor, and help get my baby in an ideal position for delivery. I believe practicing these positions before labor truly helped me to have a smooth and safe birth with no complications.

During labor, she was the calming, steady presence that both my husband and I needed. Her encouragement, hands-on support, and gentle words made all the difference. I am so grateful for the care she gave our family. I would recommend her to anyone!

Mother of Two

Calm, reassuring, and joyful—these three words perfectly describe my birth experiences with Krista. After a difficult first birth where I felt dismissed by medical staff and overwhelmed by back labor, Krista was a Godsend. She listened intently to our goals and validated my concerns, teaching me specific positioning and exercises to manage pain that I hadn't known existed.

Krista has a rare gift for centering the family; she brings a peaceful, joyous energy to the room while remaining deeply attentive to the mother’s comfort. Thanks to her coaching and expertise, my three subsequent deliveries were transformative, empowering experiences. I cannot recommend her highly enough to any mother looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate advocate.
